Mac Daddy Shoot

Okay so this is a family that I've had the privilege of photographing a few times. The first time their oldest son was still a little tyke and he was sporting the biggest cowboy hat I've ever seen on a little boy - precious I tell you. I've also had to fortune to photograph their extended family twice for Christmas (in pjs both times too I think).

They've just finished building a new house and needed a great large portrait of the family to frame in their living room and that just makes my heart smile. If you come to my house you'll see large pictures of my family everywhere. I don't understand why people would prefer fine art instead of perfectly captured portraits of those they love most. Anyways, I think we really captured some great moments for them to treasure for years to come.

I love this picture - I know it's not the perfectly posed picture most moms want but these are priceless to me.

I've actually known this couple since high school and I just adore this photo. I hope they like it too.

I've already been informed mom has no idea how she's going to pick but I'm going to make sure she does. We hang their best art projects on the refrigerator and their best work gets hung on the classroom walls do you have any idea what it does to their little egos to know that Mommy & Daddy chose to hang pictures of them up on the walls. Studies show that it really increases kids self-esteem to grow up in a house with pictures of themselves on the walls. Okay that's all I'm going to say about that. You don't have to worry about these boys Momma's gonna have plenty of pictures to cover the walls with.

Okay, so I have to Thank God for how incredibly beautiful and NICE this day was when I shot this session but I also have to thank God for getting it scheduled for me. I met Crystal and Zane (aka Mom and Dad) years ago before they got married. Our first shoot was their engagement session and our last session was to welcome their new bundle of joy. Sweet Kason was a little over 3 months when we did this session (yeah I'm a little late posting them but mom and dad have been checking them out for several weeks now). I'm a little backwards I guess - I feel my client should see their pictures before ANYONE else, so I edit and post in my private gallery before I ever post any on FB or in my blog. By the time I post the pictures online for the public my client has usually had a chance to place their order. Just my way, it's not for everyone. So for the first time to the public here's this sweet little family.

Okay so I credit God for this session so much because Crystal and I were pregnant at the same time - obviously I was much further along than her but we were both pregnant at the same time. I was due in September and her in January. Crystal had no idea that I was going through a time where I was seriously considering quitting my photography. And Crystal messaged me about doing a session of her son. She almost immediately felt bad about it and although I was responding positively she just about decided not to have me do them because she was worried it would be too hard for me.

One night she said she couldn't sleep God was really on her to call me to schedule the shoot. She shared a story with me and the moral was basically that by not allowing me to do the shoot she was denying me the opportunity to share in her joy - a joy that she felt (and she was right) that I would want to be a part of. She just knew in her heart she couldn't worry about how she felt about hurting me because God put it on her to do this FOR me. It was really awesome and it really did mean a great deal to me. There are a few things that I think will always remind me of Owen and I haven't outwardly discussed them with people but there's a reason behind them all (full moons, ladybugs, hic-cups, the wind, there's more but you get the jist). Anyways, this particular day was the hottest day (in April) and just before our shoot the nicest breeze started blowing. And during our shoot we went to move precious Kason and when they picked him up there was a ladybug crawling around where he had been laying - the first ladybug I've seen since Owen passed. It was a very very special shoot for me.

There was no way that Crystal could have known how much I needed this shoot - I'm not sure I knew how much I needed it before it happened but I did. Thanks Crystal and Zane for letting me be a part of your beautiful family.

A Family Affair

So I've been part of this family for well over a year and I finally got to do an official photo shoot with my Brother-In-Law and his wife. I've been asking and we've been planning for quite some time but something always happened. I was really excited about this shoot - except for the fact that they were planning to dress in Alabama colors. Thank goodness they came to their senses and scratched that plan. They know how I feel about the Crimson Tide.

So here goes, their first "official" photo shoot with me ever.

That's enough of them on to the babies! My babies. They've grown up so much since I first met them. Here are my precious neices and my nephew.

This picture cracks me up because she was literally all smiles and all I said was don't smile for this one and just look at that face. Bahaha she's so stinking cute!

But she does model A LOT for her big sister - she's thinking about following in my footsteps and becoming a photographer.

And their big brother is such a sweet boy - he's gonna grow up to be a special young man for sure.

Now these are so SWEET!!!!

Okay and a final picture or two - remember you are always only seeing a small selection of the shoot - there were a TON of pictures (there always are) that's probably one of my biggest faults as a photographer - I'm working on it though.

A Mother's Day Gift

This shoot melted my heart before it even started. It started out as a mother's day gift from a sweet little boy to his mom and it just got better from there. I had such a good time getting to know Liz and Ethan. Ethan didn't know it during the shoot but he had a big surprise lined up for later that night - and we used that throughout the shoot to keep him grinning. We kept a tight lid on it all through the shoot and I really wish I could have seen his face that evening when he found out what lay in store for him . . .

We had a couple of visitors decide to join us on this shoot. The first was this horse - I always call him by the wrong name is it Peanut? I can't remember anyways, she/he is a camera hog, this isn't the first time this horse has stolen the spotlight during a photoshoot. But Ethan like it - at first!

But then he bit Ethan. It didn't look like it could have possibly hurt so I really hope it didn't. Poor Ethan - but it really was funny!

It was fine - he took it like a pro and just kept right trucking along through the rest of the photo shoot.

These next few moments are some of my favorites that I've ever captured - and I think it's partly because Liz had just told me he was getting to that age where it wasn't cool to love on mom - well I sure hope these pictures hold her over through the times when he's "too old" for that stuff - because I think they're priceless.

This shoot was really special all the way around to me. I can't imagine how special it was for Miss Liz. Happy Mother's Day hon!

So I was really excited to get to photograph this little bundle of joy! Anastyn is a beautiful 3 month old baby who I soooo wanted to photograph as a newborn but it's all okay. We had a hot hot hot session! I was wiping off sweat thinking gosh it's ONLY May - only to remind myself it was still April!

So after a hot shoot and a couple of computer issues here are a few pictures from our 3 month session! Hope you LOVE them!

Oh Happy Day!

I can't think of any better way to get back to work than to photograph my "little" cousin Zackery's Senior Prom! April 16th, a day that would mean a great deal to the entire class of 2011 - a day that would hold a completely different emotional value to me but nonetheless a beautiful day.

As I walked out the door to this shoot I was ecstatic, I was excited to get to take pictures of Zackery and his date. I was honored really to be asked to be a part of such a special day to him.

Zackery was accompanied by his lovely date Meghan Hinson.

It's hard to believe that my little man is already 18 and just a few weeks away from graduation. I'm so proud of him. Here are a few more of him and his date.

Now these boys received the royal treatment on Prom night as their parents rented out the Russ House for a private dinner. The group of senior boys and their dates were all served by their parents before heading out to their big night. It was a night full of fun & memories to last a lifetime.

The Journey Back . . .

I'm sure all of you know that I haven't been behind the camera in awhile, well except of course to capture the short precious life of our little Owen. We have been incredibly blessed to have been able to stay home with Owen throughout his entire life to love him and care for him. We know that God has blessed us through our amazing friends, family, and neighbors. There will never be words to express my gratitude for without that blessing we would have missed knowing our son as we did.

Very few people know that I debated coming back to photography. I had become so very discouraged for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with my son or the loss of him. But after wondering what now, for a few days, I fasted for the first time ever and prayed, seeking God's guidance for the days ahead. Several things happened that led me to believe that this is indeed God's plan for me for now.

After much thought I have decided that when the day comes that I go to meet Jesus and see my precious Owen again, I want to have lived up every moment I have been given and use up every ounce of talent God blessed me with. So with that I will carry on. So I'm back, behind the camera, capturing those moments that pass by too fast and are gone forever, caught only on film, or print, or digital media and somewhere in our memories.

I'm excited to begin blogging again and posting my most recent work. I thank you for your love and support and I can't wait to capture your moments with your loved ones.

The Barnes Boys

I've been taking these boys pictures since they were about 3 months old I think and I cannot believe this year (well technically last year) I took their 3 year old pictures! They are adorable twins and a complete mess (in the most endearing way possible). They were having a Wild West birthday bash and to get ready for the big day I photographed them in their western wear. Their mommy used the pictures for invitations and even hired me to photograph their birthday party, which I absolutely loved. Here's a look at the newest sheriff(s) in town!

I never know what to expect from a photographer's eye whenever I'm asked to come to someone's home to photograph them but I'm always excited to see how it turns out. This was one time when it ended up being way better than I could have ever expected. Jade and her husband Lance and his sister Tiffany wanted to surprise their parents with a family photograph, so I set up and ended up having a great time in the comfort of their own yard (well we'll say property). This was a great shoot. Lance and Jade's son and their baby Reba (the big dog) were so much fun to work with.

What more could any girl ask for? A day at the beauty shop with the girls, getting all dolled up hair and make-up, then being treated like a movie star with a hundred frames of headshots! These girls were a ton of fun and so easy to work with. For me what made the day even better was getting to work with my best friend and being able to showcase her incredible work. Leah did an amazing job with all of the girls hair and make-up.

Gretchen was too cute though. When her mom told her that there was no way she could get her pig tails the way Leah had them she said, "that's okay, can I just keep them like this til tomorrow so all my friends can see my hair." So precious!

I first met Jordan and Katie at the Beach so it was only fitting that their engagement session be at the beach - right? Well, it is Katie's home away from home. I was lucky to meet Katie and Jordan through mutual friends. Jordan is currently serving this great nation as a member of the United States Army and Katie will make a wonderful Army Wife - which I have learned through my best friend is a very tough job.

I had to shake a little bit of the military off of Jordan to get him to relax in his pictures a little but it was fun. Definitely not your typical day at the beach, especially not for the couple who got the free show ; )

Eric Branch and Ashley Casey will be getting married THIS Saturday! Wow, time flies. I can remember sitting down with them over a year ago first discussing their wedding plans. Well, these guys are just as happy now as they were back then, and just days away from tying the knot. I'm just behind posting the blog on their engagement shots. Even though I was suffering with what I thought was pink eye (turned out to be an allergic reaction to the medication for the pink eye) we had a wonderful session and Eric and Ashley were able to cut up with me for their engagement portraits. I can't remember a time I've ever been around so much royalty at one time. Thank you Addyson, Natalie, and Meghan for inviting me to be your photographer at your Good Luck Party for The National Peanut Festival. I had so much fun getting to see you girls do your thing. Our First Job Already - Leah and I, I mean. Sure we did our samples but we also landed a real client that day too! Miss Madison! She was in need of modeling headshots for an upcoming audition in Pensacola. Well, the time for that audition has come and gone and the word is that Madison got a call back! Her audition and her headshot (no doubt, LOL) got her chosen out of over 500 other girls. She will now be competing with a pool of about 30 other girls in December in Birmingham. Good luck girl!

BEACH SESSIONS in SEPTEMBER!!!!

I'm so excited to be heading back to the beach for more family sessions! Everyone who came down last time really enjoyed their experiences (especially those who got to see me get my truck stuck in the sand)!!!! Anyhow, hopefully with a few less mishaps and just as much fun we're going to be setting off in September for our last trip to the beach for the year. Family sessions are $100 and include a CD of original and edited images (100+ files) and copyright release. Karlie Faith ~ Class of 2009

Miss Karlie, well what can I say. I don't think anyone has ever been so excited for a photoshoot and it really pumped me up too! Karlie is sooo excited about being a senior this year. She's so full of life and she sees all the possibilities that the future holds for her. We spent the afternoon kicking around the county capturing picture perfect moments and just really enjoying the summer afternoon.

On a personal note, I'd just like to say, I find that the senior sessions truly are incredible experiences, not just for my seniors, but for me as well. These seniors always remind me of that innocence and a whole different way of looking at the world. I can still remember the way it felt when I was having my senior portraits made, the excitement, how grown-up and child-like I felt all at the same time, the anticipation of that perfect year, and the fear of the unknown just beyond the horizon, and every single time I do a senior shoot I get to feel all of that all over again. Thank you Karlie for reminding me how great it felt to be at that stage of change (pig-tails and all) LOL!

Stephen & Elijah came out for my Summer Special and we had a good time playing and checking out the turtles and fish at the Florida Caverns Blue Hole. In case I haven't said it enough, I LOVE my job!!! I get to meet great people all the time, just like Brandon & Jessy! I had so much fun hanging out with them at the park shooting their engagement pictures.

Jessy is so easy going and is so at home in her man's arms.

And Brandon, well what can I say, he's a fool in love. Just kidding. He's such a joker, no wonder Jessy is so happy.

I laughed so much and we all had a really good time goofing off. This couple has been together for - ever! Sweethearts since before high school, they are planning a November wedding and I can't wait to get to be a part of their special day!

Senior Portraits - Work Shouldn't Be So Much Fun!

Let me just say, these two girls were soooo much fun to photograph. This was, I believe, as great an experience for me as it was for them. Taylor and Tory have been best friends since Kindergarten and we struck out the week before graduation to take get some senior portraits. We went to a few different locations and I was able to capture these girls trying to be serious and having a really good time, enjoying those final moments of high school. Best of luck girls, I know ya'll are going to do great things!
